Miracle Jewelry or Passing Fad? How to tell if amber teething necklaces live up to their hype.
Should you Get an Amber Teething Necklace for your Baby?

Amber teething necklaces are deemed as the new cure all for teething pain. Do they really live up to their hype or is it just a fad?

Amber teething necklaces are a beaded necklace – made with a series of tiny beads – that is worn around your baby’s neck or as a bracelet. The baby chews on the beads to relieve pain.

The theory is that Baltic amber contains a natural analgesic that can be absorbed through your skin to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

Amber Teething Necklaces: High Risk, Little Reward

Even as I was writing the words “tiny beads” and “baby” in the same sentence it just felt wrong. Like most experts, I am extremely wary of promoting anything that involves placing beads around a baby’s neck. The risk of swallowing a bead is the necklace is broken or strangling oneself on the chain is too large. Much safer to use an all-natural teething toy or to follow a doctor's advice for dealing with teething safely.

To top it off, there is no medical evidence to back up that they work. In our opinion, it's best to give amber teething necklaces a miss.
