Stroller Shopping

With so many brands to choose from, it's easier to buy a new car than a pram to push your infant about town in. But thinking about your lifestyle and living space ahead of time will ensure you choose the best buggy for your baby. Here are a few things to consider before you shop:

Where you plan to use your stroller

"Large wheels with adequate suspension are a must for moms who plan on spending a lot of time outdoors," says Karen Judd, owner of Moms to be . . . And More in Toronto, Canada. Ask a sales associate about suspension and test the stroller by pushing up and down on the handle bar. "If you don't have good suspension, your baby won't be comfortable," says Judd.

Judd recommends three-wheelers for women who spend a lot of time outdoors and don't always stick to BOB Revolutionsidewalks. "The BOB stroller (Revolution seen here in chocolate and pink) is ideal for rugged outdoor driving and it has fantastic suspension." Just know that three-wheelers tend to be long and aren't always the easiest to manoeuvre in tight spaces, but they're great in snow and off-road terrain.

For the urban mom who plans to spend equal times shopping, visiting museums and sidewalk strolling, the Bugaboo is the ultimate choice. If you live in a winter climate, you can buy snow tires to make pushing a little easier.

For moms who drive most places and spend time at the mall, the umbrella stroller is your best bet. It's light and easy to fold and carry. "Look for a brand with easy-to-turn wheels so it will be simple to manoeuvre," says Judd. "I think everyone should have a MacLaren umbrella stroller."
