Top parenting stories this week
From baby toys and cool threads to store openings and things to do with your little one. We cover the new, the old favourites and the best-kept secrets for everything baby.
The Softest Blanket Ever

When it comes to our babies we want everything that touches them to be as soft as their skin. Well, you can’t get much softer than Little Giraffe’s Bella Collection. The cozy trademarked fabric has fans including Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe. Choose from a range of blankets, pillows and towels, all bordered in satin and ready for baby to love.
Bedtime Songs to Sing About

A lullaby should be enjoyed by parents and their babies, but it’s hard for adults to get excited about another rendition of Hushabye Baby. That’s why we love Midnight Lullaby by Jane Roman Pitt. The soothing, folksy album is a mix of originals by Pitt and covers of songs written by artists including Wilco, Sade and the Dixie Chicks. “I found soothing bedtime songs that the artists wrote for their own children,” says Pitt. Our personal favorite? Forever Young by Bob Dylan.
Save A Child's Heart

At Just the Facts, Baby, we like our children’s charities and were excited to discover Save A Child’s Heart (SACH) – some of whose members and volunteers plan to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in August. The goal? To raise enough money ($1 million, to be exact) to save the lives of children who need heart surgery in Africa. Not much of a climber? It’s ok – you can still contribute. To support the climb and find out more about SACH, visit saveachildsheart.org.

Easy On-line Shopping

If you’re like us, you lust over items in the Pottery Barn Kids catalogue only to find they can’t be shipped north of the border. Until now, Canadians have had to settle for in-store items and can’t monogram towels, luggage or stockings with our children’s namesake. As of June 2011, things have changed! Pottery Barn Kids (along with Pottery Barn, and PBteen) now ship to Canada. All costs are inclusive of duty, and shipping rates are comparable to the U.S. The exchange rate is shown at time of purchase and there are no hidden fees.
Cute Kids Clothes

Peekaboo Beans, Playwear for Kids on the Grow, (yes, they had us at the name) has a new spring/summer line that we can't help but love. The Very Fairy Dress (pictured here) shows off the fun, fashion-forwardness of the line, but here's what really won us over: comfy, pre-washed fabrics, flat, seamless stitching, reversible, mix-and-match styles, adjustable pant legs, reflective detailing for safety – trust a mom to think of everything! (Two-year-old Maggie took an outfit for a test drive so we saw the style, versatility and wonderfully washable fabrics firsthand.) Our top pick for boys? The Hidden Treasure Pant with its drawstring waist and zip-off short options. peekaboobeans.com
