Jack Newman, M.D.

Jack Newman, M.D. established Canada’s first breastfeeding clinic in 1984 at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. As the need for his expertise grew, Dr. Newman opened clinics in several Toronto hospitals. In 2006 he co-founded the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic and Institute (NBCI) with Edith Kernerman. One of North America’s most respected breastfeeding experts, Dr. Newman is the author of Newman's Guide to Breastfeeding (Canada) and The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers (United States) and The Latch and other keys to Successful Breastfeeding ( Dr. Newman’s breastfeeding information is also at

Alan Greene, M.D.

Alan Greene, M.D. is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of California San Francisco and is the founder of He is also the Chief Medical Officer of A.D.A.M., the Pediatric Expert for WebMD, the Chair Elect of the Organic Center and is on the Advisory Board of Healthy Child Healthy World. The author of Raising Baby Green, Dr. Greene is also a popular media personality and has appeared on The Today Show, and been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Parents, and US Weekly. Dr. Greene is a practicing pediatrician at Stanford University's Packard Children's Hospital.

Alyson Schafer

Alyson Schafer is a psychotherapist and one of Canada's leading parenting experts. Andrea Grace

Andrea Grace is the president and creator of Mommy and Baby Fitness–Workout and Play–pre- and post-natal fitness plus infant stimulation programs with locations across North America. She is a CanFitPro and ACE certified fitness professional with 20 years of teaching experience and specialty certifications in pre-and post-natal and children’s fitness. Today, Andrea trains and implements Mommy and Baby Fitness programs for community centers, hospitals and fitness facilities worldwide. As well, she serves on the advisory board for the Garret Health and Wellness Centre, she is a pre/post natal fitness consultant on the expert’s panel for, and is a regular presenter on pre/post natal and children’s fitness and infant stimulation across Canada and the United States.

Daina Kalnins, MSc, RD

Daina Kalnins, MSc, RD is a registered dietitian at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She has co-authored several books on healthy eating and nutrition in association with the Hospital for Sick Children, including Better Baby Food, Better Food for Kids, Better Food for Pregnancy and Better Breastfeeding. Her next book, YUM, will be her first for children (aged eight to 13) as the intended audience. YUM is all about nutrition, and the importance of good food choices and eating well. She is also a wife and mom to two great kids who enjoy a variety of foods and whose favorite snacks include cut up fresh fruits, veggies and a plate of olives, feta cheese and tomatoes.

Debbie Young, CD(DONA), PCD(DONA), LCCE

Debbie Young, CD(DONA), PCD(DONA), LCCE is the owner of BabyMatters, a women's resource center for pregnant, birthing and postpartum families. A doula for 20 years and a childbirth educator for 21 year, Young is the president of DONA International and a childbirth educator at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, IA.  Each of her own 5 children were born differently, the last one being the longest.  She supports families in pregnancy, birth and the postpartum in the hospital and homebirths as well as in the home after the baby is born.  Doulas provide individual support that helps birth and early parenting during this special time of transformation for the new family.

Dr. Charles T. Price

Dr. Charles T. Price is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with the Pediatric Orthopedic Specialty Practice at Arnold Palmer Hospital. He currently serves on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Council on Education. In addition, he is now serving a four-year term as Chairman of the Annual Meeting Committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  He is a past President of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and was recently honored with the 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award. Dr. Price is also Director of the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI).

Dr. Cheryl Fraser

Dr. Cheryl Fraser is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with a PhD in psychology from Simon Fraser University and post doctorate training at the University of California, San Francisco Medical School. Often described as "the ass-kicking therapist," it's her rare combination of academic credibility, humour, straight-talk and irreverent radical interventions that make her a sought-after expert for T.V., radio, and print. She's also a dedicated student and practitioner of Buddhism and meditation and has hung out in India with the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere. She currently has a busy private psychotherapy practice where she specializes in sex therapy, relationship therapy, and Buddhist psychology with both individuals and couples.

Dr. Jennifer Shu

Dr. Jennifer Shu is a board-certified pediatrician in Atlanta. Her passion is educating parents on all topics relating to children. Dr. Shu is editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Baby & Child Health: The Essential Guide from Birth to 11 Years and co-author of the award-winning book Heading Home with Your Newborn and Food Fights, both published by the AAP.
An enthusiastic and experienced writer and public speaker, Dr. Shu is a member of the Parents magazine Board of Advisors and an editorial advisor for the AAP's Healthy Children doctor's office publication. She has been featured as a guest expert on CNN, Headline News, MSNBC and Discovery Health, as well as in US News & World Report, USA Today, and numerous parenting magazines, newspapers and medical publications.

Dr. Jeremy Friedman

Dr. Jeremy Friedman is the chief of the division of Paediatric Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He is an associate professor in the department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Dr Friedman is the associate editor of the Canadian Paediatric Society's journal, Paediatrics and Child Health and has co-edited three bestselling books for parents, including the most recent Caring for Kids; The Complete Guide to Childrens Health (Key Porter 2006) and The Baby Care Book (Robert Rose 2007). The Toddler Book will be released in spring 2009.
He lives in Toronto, with his wife and two young children.

Dr. JJ Levenstein

Dr. JJ Levenstein is a board-certified pediatrician and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics with a thriving private pediatric practice in Encino, Calif. She serves on the clinical staff of two hospitals and has been consistently voted one of the Best Doctors in America® from 2003 through 2010. Drawing from her experience as a pediatrician and mom, Dr. Levenstein serves as president and co-founder of MD Moms, makers of Baby Silk, the first personal care line for babies developed by pediatrician moms.

Dr. Lawrence Roy

Dr. Lawrence Roy is a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he has spent the last eleven years as Chief of the Department of Anesthesia. Dr. Roy sponsored the development of the Divisional Centre of Pain Management and Pain Research and continues to champion the development of the Centre of Excellence for Pain Management and Research at SickKids. He served as Chair of Section on Pediatric Anesthesia, and was a former president of the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society. As a Clinical Teacher at the University of Toronto, he established Problem Based Learning Seminars for the Department of Anesthesia University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and The Hospital for Sick Children. Larry and Madeline Hargreaves Roy raised four children and now watch over their three grandchildren.  They enjoy an active lifestyle with their family.

Dr. Lisa Kellett, M.D., F.R.C.P.(C), D.A.B.D.

Dr. Lisa Kellett, M.D., F.R.C.P.(C), D.A.B.D. is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association, the Canadian Laser Aesthetic Surgery Society, and the Toronto Dermatological Society. A graduate of the University of Toronto's Medical School, Dr. Lisa Kellett received training in Internal Medicine and specialized in Dermatology. Additional accreditations include Cutaneous Laser Surgery study at Harvard University. She has published scientific papers on skin care topics and acts as an advisor in developing laser technology and to the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Dr. Marjorie Greenfield

Dr. Marjorie Greenfield is a practicing board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). She is currently associate professor on the full-time faculty at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Greenfield's writing career started in 2000, when she became director of obstetrics and gynecology for the Dr. Spock Company, a health and parenting multimedia enterprise. While working with the Dr. Spock team, she wroteDr. Spock's Pregnancy Guide, published in 2003. Her new book, The Working Woman's Pregnancy Book, hit the bookshelves in May of this year. Dr. Greenfield lives in the Cleveland area with her husband and their teenage son.  

Dr. Peter Doubilet and Dr. Carol B. Benson

Dr. Peter Doubilet and Dr. Carol B. Benson Harvard Medical School Professors of Radiology, Peter Doubilet and Carol Benson are a married couple with five grown children between them. They teach and see patients at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where Peter is Senior Vice Chair of Radiology and Carol is Director of Ultrasound and Co-Director of High Risk Obstetrical Ultrasound. Together they have written Your Developing Baby (McGraw-Hill, 2008), a pregnancy guidebook that takes its reader through every stage of a baby's development, using 2D and 3D ultrasound images, original explanatory diagrams and reader-friendly prose. Peter and Carol consider it their greatest privilege to be able to work with pregnant women and expectant couples, checking on their babies' health and helping them get to know their babies before they are born.

Dr. William Camann

Dr. William Camann is the director of obstetric anesthesia at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He is also an associate professor of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, and past-president of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. An internationally recognized authority on obstetric anesthesia and pain control during childbirth Dr. Camann is the co-author of Easy Labor, Every Woman's Guide to Choosing Less Pain and More Joy During Childbirth (Random House/Ballantine Books, 2006). Elizabeth Pantley

Elizabeth Pantley is a mother of four and the best-selling author of eight parenting books, including: The No-Cry Sleep Solution and The No-Cry Discipline Solution. She is also a contributing author to The Successful Child with Dr. William Sears. Based in Washington, Pantley is the president of Better Beginnings Inc. (a family resource and education company) and a parenting expert for a variety of publications including: Parents, Parenting and Redbook. (

Jennifer Kolari, M.S.W., R.S.W.

Jennifer Kolari, M.S.W., R.S.W. is a therapist who has helped children, teens and families get connected for 20 years. She is the author of Connected Parenting (Penguin, 2009) and is a highly sought-after speaker with schools, organizations and media agencies throughout North America. Jennifer spent several years counseling families for the Toronto District School Board and serving as a field supervisor for the University of Toronto faculty of Social Work. Before that she was a family therapist at Integra, a children's mental health centre in Toronto. Jennifer lives in Toronto with her husband and their three children.

Jennifer Wise, B.H. Sc., D.C.

Jennifer Wise, B.H. Sc., D.C. is a family chiropractor in Toronto with a holistic approach to health care and a special focus on care for children and expectant mothers. Upon completion of the doctor of chiropractic program at Life University in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Wise obtained additional training in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). Joanne Saab, RD

Joanne Saab, RD is a registered dietitian who practices in pediatrics at McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario.  She obtained her degree in Foods and Nutrition at the University of Western Ontario and then completed her dietetic internship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.  Joanne is co-author of three books in conjunction with the Hospital for Sick Children: Better Food for Kids, Better Food for Pregnancy and the best-selling Better Baby FoodBetter Baby Food and Better Food for Kids are both on Indigo/Chapter's "Trusted-Advisor" book list.  Joanne also enjoys being the mother to twin daughters who have taught her a lot of practical how-to on kids nutrition!

Jorge E. Chavarro, M.D., Sc.D.

Jorge E. Chavarro, M.D., Sc.D. is a research fellow at the Department of Nutrition of the Harvard School of Public Health.  He studies the role of diet and lifestyle on reproductive function and diseases affecting reproductive organs, including dietary determinants of sexual maturation, male and female infertility and cancers affecting reproductive organs.  Dr. Chavarro is the lead author of The Fertility Diet (McGraw -Hill/Harvard Health Publications, 12/2007), a fertility how-to based on 8 recent studies from the Nurses' Health Study II, one of the nation's most comprehensive studies on women's health. The findings show that relatively simple changes in diet and lifestyle can prevent and potentially reverse ovulatory infertility. Dr. Chavarro's work has been recognized with awards from the International Agency for Research in Cancer and the American Association for Cancer Research. (

Karen Byker Karen Byker is a playful mother of four, loving wife and the licensed professional photographer behind Reflections of Life Photography.  She resides in Grimsby, Ontario where she maintains a method of parenting that includes spontaneity, silliness and, of course, a ton of hugs and kisses.  She’s an expert on lifestyle photography as well as parenting, with many unique ideas that can be reviewed on her website, Creative Parenting.

Karen Judd

Karen Judd is our baby product guru and the owner of Moms to be . . .and More. Judd moved to Toronto, Canada from England in 1986 to work as a nanny. A few years later, when pregnant with her first child, she identified a niche that needed to be filled–great service and selection in the baby industry. Her business has since grown to more than 8,000 square feet of new and innovative products from around the world.

Lianne Phillipson-Webb

Lianne Phillipson-Webb , founder of Sprout Right, graduated with Honours from The Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, England in 1999 (Dip. ION). She is also a Registered Nutrition Consultant Practitioner (RNCP) and a member of the International Organization of Nutrition Consultants (IONC). She is a mother of two lovely girls. Lianne is also an IFR Reflexologist, Aromatherapist, Reiki Master and Aesthetician. 

Lisa Weston, RM

Lisa Weston, RM ,is the Vice President of the Association of Ontario Midwives. She is one of the founding members of the Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives practice and served as the first Division Head of Midwifery at Rouge Valley Health System. Lisa'a work in the field of midwifery began as a consumer and advocate in 1988 and she worked as a member of the Midwifery Task Force prior to and during regulation. Lisa was involved in the task force on implementation of the Healthy Babies/Healthy Children Program in Durham and her contributions to the community include public speaking and activism around education for women's choices in childbirth.

Renee Kaufman and Natalie Aston

Renee Kaufman and Natalie Aston used their combined backgrounds in business and fashion to co-found Hatch Maternity after they recognized a distinct lack of stylish, comfortable and versatile maternity wear on the market. Their goal is to create the perfect maternity wardrobe solution with easy-to-wear, classic pieces in luxurious knits. Their Hatch Maternity collection has been tried and tested by Renée, who gave birth to Sam in July 2007 and Aiden in April 2009.

Sara Bingham

Sara Bingham is the founder of WeeHands and the author of The Baby Signing Book. Sara completed an honours Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at the University of Ottawa, and has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Carleton University. In addition, she has earned an honours post-graduate diploma from Georgian College as a Communicative Disorders Assistant. She has been studying American Sign Language (ASL) since 1991 with the Canadian Hearing Society, the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf in Toronto and at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario.  Sara has worked with the Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services and is an instructor within Durham College's Communicative Disorders Assistant program.

Stephanie Curran, R.TCM.P

Stephanie Curran, R.TCM.P has been practising as an Acupuncturist and registered Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner since 2000 and founded the Elements of Health Centre in 2006. She has devoted much of her practice to treating women's health issues and has completed many specialized courses in the application of TCM for treating reproductive and obstetric conditions.  Passionate about working with women throughout their pregnancies, Stephanie has completed doula training and has integrated acupuncture and labor support in both home and hospital settings.

Steve and Andrew Hammond

Steve and Andrew Hammond are co-owners of Baby First Aid–an Ontario-based company that specializes in baby and toddler emergencies. Steve has is an expert in baby and toddler first aid. His first aid experience began when he worked for the Toronto Police Marine Unit Lifeguard program for eight years. After the birth of his first child, Steve recognized that many new parents lacked the knowledge–and more importantly–the confidence in the event of an emergency involving their baby or toddler. Their goal is to teach parents first aid and CPR and give the confidence they need to react in an emergency. 

Susan Georgoussis

Susan Georgoussis is the Co-founder of Becoming Maternity and Parenting Centres and a mother of four. She is a certified perinatal nurse specialist (PNC), lactation consultant (IBCLC) and Lamaze childbirth educator (LCCE). For more than 25 years, Susan has focused her career on women’s health issues related to birth and parenting. She has been actively involved in the development and facilitation of various programs related to healthy pregnancies, labour & delivery, anesthesia education, parenting with multiples, postpartum adjustment and breastfeeding.

Tarra Elliott, BSc, DDS

Tarra Elliott, BSc, DDS Dr. Tarra Elliott, BSc, DDS is mother of two and a dentist practicing preventive, therapeutic & cosmetic dentistry on Eglinton Avenue in the Forest Hill area. Tracey Mallett
