Mommies rejoice, there may be weight loss benefits in that glass of red at the end of a day.
An Unexpected Benefit of Red Wine

Okay, so we don’t usually don’t chat wine on this site, but we think this study warrants an exception. For those of you who aren't expecting, we’ve got some good news – especially if you like to treat yourself to a glass of red wine at the end of the day.

A new study out of Georgetown University has found that drinking red wine can help reverse the negative impact of eating junk food. It turns out the resveratrol, that’s plentiful in a glass of red vino, not only has antioxidant properties which can reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease and stroke, but it can even help you look better and enhance your muscles, while reducing body fat. (In moderation of course.)

Full-disclosure: the study was done on monkeys and not humans, but researchers found that the group of monkeys that were fed resveratrol along with their high-fat, high-sugar diet had more muscle and less fat than those who ate the junk with out a dash of red. When you drink resveratrol, your muscles become more resistant to fatigue. Experts hypothesize that the same would be true for humans.

If you’re pregnant and can’t reach for a glass of red, the resveratrol found in berries has been found to have a similar effect.
