The Advantages of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding may be natural, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy – especially at first. Learning to get the correct latch can take time and patience. It is worth it though. The advantages of breastfeeding are endless and continue well past your baby’s first six months. If you’re not convinced that breastfeeding is right for you and your baby, please read on:

The Advantages of Breastfeeding for Baby

Research shows that breastfeeding provides protection for your baby against a variety of conditions and diseases.  When your baby drinks breast milk she is being protected from ear infections, chest infections, stomach and intestinal infection, Necrotising Enterocolitis (a very dangerous disease that can affect babies in the NICU), obesity and diabetes (type 1 and 2), plus others.

The nutrients in breast milk also encourage and promote brain development, mother and baby bonding over the short and long term, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), asthma, eczema, childhood cancer, osteoporosis, Multiple Sclerosis, heart disease, schizophrenia, alcoholism, stress and depression, and Pyloric Stenosis (a serious stomach condition).  It’s likely that the list is not even close to being complete as researchers are constantly finding out more ways in which breastfeeding protects your baby.
